Maulana Zafar Ahmad al-Usmani al-Thanvi
Zafar Ahmad Usmani al-Thanwi ( ظفر أحمد العثماني) was a Sunni Muslim Jurist who became an influential figure of the Hanafi school of Sunni jurisprudence’s Deobandi Movement. He is nephew of Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi.
He was a well known aalim of Fiqh and an expert in Osool e-Fiqh. He had a complete command over Arabic and was well known for his writings and peotry both in Arabic and Urdu.
Starting his career in Madrassa Mazahir ul-Uloom in Saharanpur, then Madrassa Irshad ul-Uloom Garhi Pukhta and later served in many Madrassa’s of Dhaka and Rangoon. His last settlement was in Tando Allahyar in Pakistan where he died.
He was born on october 1892 in Deoband and died in 1974 in Pakistan. He has th honour of hoisting the Pakistan flag in Dhaka in 1947 after formation of Pakistan.
