Musnad Ahmad Ibn-Hanbal

The Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal is one of the largest and most significant collections of Hadith (sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad, PBUH) in Islamic history, compiled by the revered Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (d. 855 CE). Unlike thematic collections, the Musnad is organized by the companion (Sahabi) who narrated the Hadith, grouping all reports from a single companion together. Containing nearly 30,000 narrations, this work is a foundational source for Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh) and Hadith sciences, providing invaluable insight into the earliest reports, the continuity of transmission, and the extensive network of narrators in early Islamic scholarship.
