Al-Tabari (أبو جعفر محمد بن جرير بن يزيد الطبري‎) born 224 AH, was a scholar, historian and commentator on the Quran. from Iran. He is best known for his expertise in Qur’anic tafsir and Historiography.

He is known for his two books Qur’anic commentary known in Arabic as Tafsir al-Tabari and his historical chronicle History of the Prophets and Kings (Tarikh al-Rusul wa al-Muluk), often referred to Tarikh al-Tabari.

He died in 310AH, in Baghdad, Iraq.
